Audi is preparing to release a facelifted R8 supercar in summer 2012. In addition, it will be offered with an engine lineup that’s significantly stronger. Audi is expected to improve the 5.2-litre V10 from 518bhp to 533bhp. Sources from Munich said that for the first time, Audi will be coming out with a seven-speed dual clutch S-tronic gearbox. To date, just an old-school Ferrari open-gate manual 'box has been offered, or a robotized R-tronic auto.
The entry-level Audi R8 will get major revisions in 2012 too. Its 4.2-litre V8 will be upgraded to the same spec as the Audi RS5. It is expected to have a boosted output, from 424bhp to 444bhp. Insiders said that there will be GT and GT Spyder variants once more.
Even if the R8 will get a mild facelift, it’s likely to just be a slight model year change to the car’s physical design such as with its headlamp designs and LED spacing. However, there is no facelift planned for the Lambo Gallardo, the cousin of the R8. There will be more special editions to come but Lambo fans will need to wait three years more for the successor to the Gallardo.
